REVIEW: BODY & SOUL by John Harvey
Latest News , Review / July 6, 2018

I really enjoyed BODY & SOUL by John Harvey. The plot was brilliant and kept me on my toes right up to the end. An end with an emotional twist. It’s sad to say this is the final novel by John Harvey as he has finally decided to retire from a writing career blessed with bestseller after bestseller. Thank you for the tremendous skill you have woven into each and every one of your stories. Thank you also to Cornerstone, Penguin Random House, and #NetGalley for the chance to review #BodyAndSoul. ★★★★★ 5 STARS! The heavy manacles around the girl’s wrists, perhaps not surprisingly, looked very much like the ones that had been found on the studio floor. For a moment, she had a vision of the chain to which they were attached being swung through the air, taking on force and speed before striking home. Then swung again. When his estranged daughter Katherine appears on his doorstep, ex-Detective Frank Elder knows that something is wrong. Katherine has long been troubled, and Elder has always felt powerless to help her. But now Katherine has begun to self-destruct. The breakdown of her affair with a controversial artist has sent her into a tailspin…

REVIEW: THE QUAKER by Liam McIlvanney
Latest News , Review / June 20, 2018

THE QUAKER by Liam McIlvanney is an atmospheric Thriller that grips the imagination in the harshness of a 1969 Glasgow. The attention to detail is breathtaking. I could smell the cigarette smoke, the damp, and the sweat. I felt totally immersed in the story. The lead character, DI McCormack searches for the truth in a case that sees women dying in terrible circumstances. The writing is refreshing and gritty. Thank you to #Netgalley and #HarperCollins for the opportunity to review this book. #THEQUAKER ★★★★★ 5 STARS His name fills the streets with fear… In the chilling new crime novel from award-winning author Liam McIlvanney, a serial killer stalks the streets of Glasgow and DI McCormack follows a trail of devastating secrets to uncover the truth… A city torn apart. REVIEW: LAST LETTER FROM ISTANBUL by Lucy Foley
Review / June 15, 2018

LAST LETTER FROM ISTANBUL a Romantic Suspense by Lucey Foley was a little on the slow side for me. I persevered because the writing was so good. I am glad I did. The evocative story, which was written using flashbacks came full circle and really hit me hard. I even shed a few tears because I had come to love all the characters. I would love to know their complete stories . . . what happened and when . . . If . . . ? Thank you to #NetGalley for the opportunity to review this book #LastLetterform Istanbul ★★★★ 4 STARS Constantinople, 1921 Each day Nur gazes across the waters of the Bosphorus to her childhood home, a grand white house, nestled on the opposite bank. Memories float on the breeze – the fragrance of the fig trees, the saffron sunsets of languid summer evenings. But now those days are dead. The house has been transformed into an army hospital, it is a prize of war in the hands of the British. And as Nur weaves through the streets carrying the embroideries that have become her livelihood, Constantinople swarms with Allied soldiers – a reminder of how far she and…

REVIEW: THE SAPPHIRE WIDOW by Dinah Jefferies
Review / May 31, 2018

THE SAPPHIRE WIDOW, a  Mystery Suspense by Dinah Jefferies left me enthralled. It was the most beautiful breathtaking book I have read for a while. The sumptuous descriptions, raw emotions and intense mystery fill the pages and my thoughts. It was a though I were there in Ceylon, in the days of British rule with the sun beating ferociously down before the Monsoons broke and the mystery deepened. The suspense is woven throughout the book and while you may guess the initial betrayal before the lead character, Louisa Reeve you will love the twists and turns and powerful emotions on her journey to happiness. Thank you to #NetGalley for the opportunity to review this book #TheSapphireWidow ★★★★★ 5 STARS A sweeping, breath-taking story of love and betrayal from the Number One Sunday Times bestselling author of The Tea Planter’s Wife Ceylon, 1935. Louisa Reeve, the daughter of a successful British gem trader, and her husband Elliot, a charming, thrill-seeking businessman, seem like the couple who have it all. Except what they long for more than anything: a child. While Louisa struggles with miscarriages, Elliot is increasingly absent, spending much of his time at a nearby cinnamon plantation, overlooking the Indian ocean. After his sudden…

REVIEW: SKIN DEEP by Liz Nugent
Latest News , Review / May 3, 2018

SKIN DEEP, an Adult Mystery Thriller by Liz Nugent left me in a quandary. Perhaps that was the reason: to shock and make the reader think. I, on the other hand, could not get to grips with the main character, Cordelia Russell. Within the first few pages, we learn Cordelia has the body of a dead man decomposing in her flat. But who? Over the rest of the book, we are introduced to many would-be suspects as the story begins again when Cordelia is just nine years old. Liz Nugent is a fantastic writer who takes us on one hell of a ride. My only concern, I did not feel anything for Cordelia, not one shred of sympathy. Her character traits proved too difficult to like. Thank you to #NetGalley for the opportunity to review #SkinDeep I’m sorry, but I could only give this story 3.5 STARS. ‘I could probably have been an actress. It is not difficult to pretend to be somebody else. Isn’t that what I’ve been doing for most of my life?’ Cordelia Russell has been living on the French Riviera for twenty-five years, passing herself off as an English socialite. But her luck, and the kindness of strangers, have run…

REVIEW: CROSS HER HEART by Sarah Pinborough
Latest News , Review / April 7, 2018

CROSS HER HEART a psychological thriller, by Sarah Pinborough, moved along at a great pace. Secrets, lies, and scandal were at every page turn. I could not put this book down. Without giving any ‘secrets’ away, the novel led me down one path only to turn everything on its head. BOOM! This book grips and doesn’t let go. It twists the reader left and right as the characters come to terms with their past. At times, this was not an easy book to read. It left one questioning right and wrong, past and present. Superb. REVIEW: THE HIDEAWAY by Sheila O’Flanagan
Fiction , Review / March 31, 2018

THE HIDEAWAY by Sheila O’Flanagan proved a great read. After devasting news, the author took us on a journey from soul-destroying distress to acceptance and new beginnings. All the while the backdrop of sultry Spain with its orange groves, vineyards, and handsome men held the reader entranced. I read the book quite quickly. I wanted to know how Juno mended her broken heart. It seemed time and the beautiful Spanish scenery, along with Pep helped soothe the past. Beautiful. I hope the author writes a follow-up to this book, as I would love to find out what happens next. There was so much more to know. ★★★★★ 5 STARS – Thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book. DESIRE by ROSEMARY WILLHIDE. Why it should be on your ‘Must-Read List’
Fiction , Guest Author / March 28, 2018

If you love BDSM books with feisty heroines, swoon-worthy heroes, suspense, humour and jaw- dropping sex scenes, then DESIRE by Rosemary Willhide is the book for you. This unputdownable read will soon become a firm favourite with many.  Darcy Lockhart is named after her gran’s favorite literary character in Pride and Prejudice, yet in her twenty-six years on earth, she’s struggled in vain to find any Jane Austen type romance. Her recent break up with her ex reads more like a Stephen King novel. Fresh from her broken engagement with a pile of financial obligations looming, Darcy’s sturdy resolve to achieve true success is tested at every turn. Will she ever be good enough at anything? When she happens upon Eli Reece, he is the spitting image of her namesake, Mr. Darcy, down to the proper British accent and cocky arrogance. Darcy and Eli hit it off like oil and water or as the British say, chalk and cheese. Despite Eli’s striking green eyes and sexy grin, Darcy finds his so-called charm and confidence annoying and deems him a buttmunch. As the universe keeps tossing them together, Eli stumbles upon Darcy’s naughty little secret, her taste for kinky porn on Twitter….

REVIEW: FINDING GOBI by Dion Leonard
Non-fiction , Review / March 25, 2018

Finding Gobi by Dion Leonard was a rewarding book to read. At first, it didn’t seem like a read for a grown up. After all, what could we possibly have in common? But, it turned out to be a real treat. This story was about not just finding a little dog lost in the Gobi Desert, but also a journey to finding oneself. Dion Leonard, an ultramarathon runner came across Gobi, a small stray dog in the Gobi desert. The little dog latched onto Dion no matter what during the 155-mile race. The terrain and race were grueling, but Gobi didn’t give up hope that she might one day be loved. Gobi changed Dion’s perception of the world and helped heal his past. Lovely descriptions throughout. Finding Gobi is a true story that warms one’s heart. ★★★★★ 5 Stars Thanks to #NetGalley for the review copy.
